How To Create An Eye-Catching Label For Your Beer Bottles

Want to make sure that your label stands out from the crowd? Here’s a quick list of 4 tips to give you some food for thought.

1. Don’t Make It More Difficult – Use The Correct Software
There’s an expression “just because you can doesn’t mean you should” and this rings true with regards to label design. Lots of programs can technically create labels, such as Photoshop or even Microsoft Word; however just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Photoshop doesn’t export vectors which results in low quality text and images, and if you design your label, all of your images will be converted to RGB, which isn’t supported by a lot of printing presses and will need to be converted, which will result in a dull image that lacks vibrancy.

Instead, we recommend using a dedicated illustration program that allows you to create CMYK files; one such example of these programs is Adobe Illustrator, however you could use any illustration program with CMYK functionality you wish.

2. Double Check The Measurements
When designing the label for your beer bottles, make sure that you get the measurements correct. You wouldn’t want to print out your labels then realise that they’re too short or too big; that would be horrible.

So, like most things in life, it’s worth double checking measurements before you commit to a design. It’s a little thing, but it could save a lot of bother; so before you send a design to be printed, give it one last check to make sure everything is the correct size.

3. Tell A Unique Story – Don’t Follow The Crowd
With lots of competition between different breweries, you need to showcase what makes your beer and your brewery unique. So you need to tell a story. This might at first seem difficult, however through the clever use of artwork you could clearly pass on a message to potential customers. For example, if you’re a fun loving business, you could include a cartoon mascot, if you’re a family business, perhaps a family crest.

After all, there are lots of different beers to choose from, but if somebody wants to drink one of your beers; they should be able to spot it quickly and easily. So make the message short and easy to read.

4. Don’t Forget About Legal Requirements
With various different products, including those of an alcoholic nature; there are legal requirements and regulations that you must comply with. With regards to alcoholic beverages such as beer, you must ensure you label includes the following:

Firstly it must include the number of UK units in the container, which in this case would be a beer bottle. Then it should include the recommended safe drinking guidelines (which are a max of 3-4 daily units for men, and a max of 2-3 for women), and finally it should also include a warning (either written or in the form of a logo) for pregnant women.
