PeterLynn is an expert manufacturer of printed and plain self-adhesive labels, serving businesses across the UK since 1985. We offer everything from flexographic to digitally printed labels, as well as stocking an extensive range of label materials.

The business was started in 1985 by Mr. Peter Lindsay, with a single hot foil printer. As the business grew, it soon moved into a small premises in Corby and installed a Newfoil press and Mark Andy 830 flexo press. With continuous growth and investment over the years PeterLynn has grown into a leading label printer with capabilities ranging from flexographic and hot foil printing, to the latest inkjet and toner digital technologies, and everything in between.

The experienced team at PeterLynn understands that being able to create the perfect combination of materials, adhesive, design, print, and finish are all vital to how a label performs. Printing Methods

We are a modern print operation offering the latest inkjet, digital toner, flexographic and foil-based printing technologies, with an extensive range of high-quality embellishment/finishing options. We are an established team with the experience required to offer expert advice on the various print methods, materials, and finishing options available.

Digital Printed Labels

Digital technologies have transformed most industries over the last few decades and the printing world is no different. Digital printing is generally the quickest and easiest way to print your custom labels.

We use both Xeikon digital toner and Screen Inkjet printing presses which produce high quality, full-colour labels on a range of materials. With digital printing requiring no printing plates, it is ideal for short-to-medium runs across multiple label sorts. As our printers produce up to 1200dpi images you will get a premium quality finish, as well as the option of adding laminates, varnishes, spot inks and foiling details as required.

The other advantages of digital printed labels include:

  • Cost efficiency for a short run of labels, or several short runs
  • Variable data printing, including barcodes, serial numbers and customised labels
  • A high resolution, even for smaller prints or tiny detail
  • A photographic image quality that can even be compared to pictures in magazines

Flexographic Printed Labels

The process of flexographic, direct rotary printing sees a raised image impressed into a flexible relief surface (a printing plate). This then turns the image out onto the materials that need to be printed. If you think about how traditional ‘letterpress style’ devices (that essentially ‘stamp’ images and words onto paper), flexographic printing works in a similar way.

The main advantages of flexo printed labels includes:

  • Cost effective for long print runs
  • Print any pantone under the sun, just provide the reference and we can get an ink to achieve a standardised pantone result
  • Enables printing on a wide variety of different porous and non-porous surfaces
  • Print millions of images with one template, thanks to the flexo printer’s easy plate-making process
  • Continuous patterns and solid colours can be created with flexographic printers
  • Flexographic printing offers a great balance of durability and safety for any food-related products

Our flexographic printing presses are used for medium to large volumes of labels. Using high-quality inks, we are able to print images in up to eight colours, as well as adding a coat of varnish to the label for protection against marking. We also have the capacity to print on the reverse side of the label (the adhesive) – which makes them well suited for food and cooking labels.

Hot Foil Labels

Hot foil printing is great for short runs of labels or specialist work. The process works as a combination of three different methods; heat, pressure, and a high-quality foiling material. Firstly, the die is attached to the foiling machine and heated up. Then the material is placed between the die and the substrate used for printing. Lastly, pressure is applied by the automated hotfoil press to bring the substrate and foiling material together to adhere to one another.

Advantages include:

  • Great for high visibility and capturing attention, hot foil labels are able to create a strong image that gets noticed. Ideal for anything from producing warnings on electrical labels to making any product more visually appealing
  • Placing extra ‘perceived value’ on the packaging; associating the product with a ‘higher quality’
  • Foiling allows for solid metallic areas in a range of foil colours, anything from metallic gold to silver, red to purple – just ask for samples of what we can offer

Hot foil labels can be laminated with either matt or gloss clear polyester to provide protection against water, abrasions, and chemicals.

Thermal Transfer Labels

Used for the printing of variable information, such as prices, sell-by dates, ingredients and bar codes, thermal transfer labels allow great flexibility to print-on-demand.

The thermal transfer printer uses a ribbon with the print head in order to provide a stable black print to the material. The advantages of thermal transfer labels include:

  • Their durability makes them ideal for products that have been designed to have a long shelf life or need to exist in harsh environments
  • Great resolution for any barcodes, text, or graphics
  • A very cost-effective method of adding variable data
